Islamic Knowledge Group

Debates, fundraisers, trivia competitions, guest speakers, movies—everything happens at the Islamic Knowledge Group! Expand your horizons by learning new ideas, clearing misconceptions, and finding the connections between Islam and other religions: Why do women wear a head-covering? What are the Islamic beliefs concerning Jesus? Was Islam really spread by the sword? Why do Muslims fast for an entire month? Why don’t Muslims eat pork or drink alcohol? What are the similarities between the Abrahamic faiths? Have discussions, or send your questions to scholars of Islam.

Be a part of the successful fundraisers which send all the money to orphans in war-torn countries. Our fifth year running, the club is open to people of all different backgrounds, and new members are always welcome! Our email address is: msa_rhhs@hotmail.com. Meetings are held every Monday after school in Room 2030—join the IKG!

Mock Trials Club & Team

Mock Trials photo

Gavels, gowns, crying witnesses and objections. The courtroom dramalives on in your very own high school! Learn how to deliver opening statements, direct examinations, cross examinations, closing statements or just how to handle the heat as a witness every Wednesday afterschool. Auditions for the school team are open to club members only in December. After the auditions, the team practices with their coach and teacher advisers for the remaining competitions. The RHHS Mock Trials team has had a history full of excellence. Mr. “OBA Provincials” Roy Respicio has helped to lead the RHHS Mock Trials team to winning three Judges’ cups, as well as being an OBA Regional and Provincial finalist for the past five consecutive years.

Join us Wednesdays after school in room 2038 (Geography/Moderns pod).

Debate Club

The art of persuasion can be difficult to learn and that is
why the Richmond Hill High School Debate Club aims to teach students
how to use logic, critical thinking, and public speaking skills
effectively, and to their advantage. The skills debaters develop are tools
they employ at annual university hosted tournaments, as well as
in all other aspects of life, both academic and personal. Debate is a
skill which aids students in everything – from school presentations, to
working cooperatively as team members in the workplace, to negotiating
with a sibling, teacher or parent in a calm and professional manner.

“Nothing is as annoying as arguing with someone who knows what they are talking about.” With the help of debate club, YOU can be that someone!
