What do you have to be as a Secretary? Read this unmodified description from this year's elections form. This position asks you to be everything you expect a secretary to be and more. Ultimately, you’re responsible for recording every decision the Council makes in weekly “Minutes” and forwarding those notes to all members, teacher advisors and administration. Yet beyond typical secretarial duties, there are several behind-the-scenes details that you may take on should you choose to do so. Believe it or not, the Secretary is like the secret weapon, the stitches that make up the patch quilt, or the glue that holds the edges together. At least, that is what the Secretary aims to be: the component that keeps operations running as smoothly and efficiently as possible. To achieve this, you must be organized, knowledgeable, and have impeccable note taking skills (this means you’re a fast writer, a good listener, and can keep information clear and concise). You’re the one who thinks of the little details others missed out on, the one who is prepared for every possible outcome, the one with Plan B (and C and D and E and . . . you get the idea). You must be a quick thinker and a fast learner, unafraid to voice your opinions. You must be consistent, practical, and efficient. Essentially, you’re the one who thinks of all the questions, but often, you’re also the one with all the answers. |
